Soul Ties
Inner feeling
Ever Wonder why you can feel a connection with a certain person even if they are far away? Or even when siblings or your kids are going through something you can feel it? Not sure why you get that inner feeling? Well the bible gives us an inside, here are 3 biblical key accounts known as knitted souls or soul ties.
1 Corinthians 6:16
“Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.””
Genesis 2:24
“That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.”
Matthew 19:4-6
“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
1 Samuel 18:1-3
“Now when he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. Saul took him that day, and would not let him go home to his father’s house anymore. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.”
What is a soul tie (knitted souls)
Soul ties or knitted souls are connections that are built between souls and make two joined together as one.
How do I know if I have an ungodly soul tie?
You feel a sense of responsibility over the other person even if they are toxic to your well being
Fear and control usually follow an ungodly soul tie
You will most often go against your own will and God's will to please the other person
That connection will hold you back from growing in Christ
You can't get that person of your mind even if you have made a decision to forgive them
Dangers of soul ties
The dangers of soul ties determine in the spiritual walk of both beings. If one or both beings are in demonic bondage or ties of any kind, that opens the door for unclean spirits to the other being. It works both ways if unclean spirits can use that connection, so can you as a believer. You can take authority over the unclean spirits and even minister freedom(deliverance) for your soul tie. We see in scripture that Jesus is the only one that can divide spirits from the soul. So we ask the Holy Spirit to guide us during such deliverance to break these soul ties that are not godly (the godly soul ties let no man separate).
Hebrews 4:12
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
We wrestle principalities, rulers, unclean spirits etc. The soul tie is one of the many ways we wrestles spiritual host of wickedness. We wrestle to remain free and set others free.
Ephesians 6:12
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Keep in mind that if a person doesn’t want deliverance the unclean spirit will return. The person can get worse if they aren’t filled with the Spirit of God. That is one of the risk you are taking if the person gets delivered through a soul tie and doesn't want freedom.
Luke 11:24-26
“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”
In our Journey we build a lot of soul ties. Some godly and some ungodly. As we mature in Christ and learn to hunger for spiritual freedom we begin to un-tie ourselves from such bondages. Our souls start longing to be set free and only our unity with Jesus can bring that peace and freedom to our souls. Your soul ties are the reason why you can experience certain emotions for those you care about. That inner feeling that is letting you know that something is wrong with the other person is due to a soul tie. The reason why you feel like you can’t let go of a toxic relationship is due to a soul tie. It's time to let go of the ungodly soul ties and receive your breakthrough.
Review of the 3 accounts
Let’s take a look back at the first 3 key accounts. In 1 Corinthians 6:16 we learn that during sex we become one in soul in or out of marriage. You can create multiple soul ties if you are in multiple sex relationships. The 2nd account is a godly soul tie, One that God designed by marriage. The 3rd account is between Jonathan and David. The affection they had for each other created a connection in their souls that knitted them together. This soul tie in this particular case is godly and out of pure brotherly love. Unfortunately not all soul ties that are form out of affection are out of pure love. Those can become ungodly soul ties. For one of these soul ties to be formed both beings have to have the same type of affection towards each other to make the connection in their souls. Soul ties are also with family and love ones and God can use them for His glory. The Bible doesn’t tell us how to break a soul tie but it does tell us that Jesus is the one that can do it. In Isaiah 10:27 we also read that the anointing of the Lord breaks the yoke that enslaves us. The Holy Spirit is the anointing that brakes the soul ties with the enemy. Only Jesus can give us that anointing. If you walk in the anointing of the Holy Spirit you have been empowered to set captives free (Luke 4:18), including from soul ties. If you feel the need or want to get rid of some soul ties say a prayer similar to this one and let the Holy Spirit guide you.
Prayer
Father I thank you for the freedom that is in Christ Jesus and the power you have given us through the Holy Spirit in Jesus name. I ask that you bring to mind all and any soul ties I have formed through out my life willing and unwilling that aren’t of you God. (Say the soul tie with the person one at a time go through them) in the name of Jesus and throughout the empowerment of the Holy Spirit I cancel and destroy the soul tie with (persons name) in the name of Jesus. I give all permission to your Holy Spirit to remove those soul ties father. The only soul ties I receive and I’m in agreement with, are with you Jesus and the ones you have orchestrated in my life. I repent for forming all the ungodly soul ties and I receive your spiritual cleansing from them in Jesus name.
Remember not all soul ties are ungodly. A godly soul tie will feel the call to intercede for you, lift you up/ draw you closer to God/ and won’t go against your will and God's will. Don't forget to forgive all those soul ties.
Testimony
In 2017, another brother in Christ asked me to pray with him for another man(we will name this man Jay just for his dignity). I have never met Jay. So as we go in to a room at our home church. We started to talk to him about the baptism in the Holy Spirit (that was his prayer request). So we start praying that God will fill Him up and baptize Jay with His Holy Spirit and power. After about 5 mins in prayer the Lord gave me a word of wisdom about soul ties. So I started to share with him about soul ties and marriage. As I shared that with him the Lord gave me another word about Jay being under witchcraft through a soul tie. As I finish saying this Jay said “ My ex-wife does witchcraft and that’s one of the reasons we separated. The reason I came to Christ as well.” Then Jay started crying. It was a powerful moment as God healed a grown man and destroyed the soul tie and baptized Jay with His Holy Spirit. As soon as we prayed against the soul tie Jay received the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
